Ill.Gates – My Special Place / ill.Methodology

ill.Gates is a Toronto-based composer, performer and educator. Over the past 16 years, he has established a global fanbase and a reputation as one of the most dynamic electronic music artists around. He regularly tours across North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. Gates has headlined at such festivals as Burning Man, Shambala, the World Electronic Music Festival and the New Orleans Jazz Festival. His first full-length release, Autopirate (Muti Music, 2008) charted and continues to sell strongly. His upcoming triple album The ill.Methodology and accompanying online course are highly anticipated. Gates was recently selected as one of the Next 100 by URB Magazine.

Many of his contemporaries cite ill.Gates as a key artistic influence and inspiration in their music. While on tour, Gates frequently teaches workshops to grateful and attentive audiences, in which he shares his highly effective approach to producing quality finished music as well as insights into the mentality and strategies necessary to succeed in the music business.

Accompanying this extra special number Ill.gates iAmRurik and Creyote hopped on a roof and painted a mural in efforts to help the mayor of Toronto CA distinguish murals from vandalism they filmed a video made up of over 4000 still shots capturing the creation of the rooftop mural in downtown Toronto check the video !+! here !+!

“This video came about both unexpectedly and fortuitously … we had just cleaned up our rooftop when old friends iAmRurik and Creyote came by and just happened to feel like festooning every wall in our compound with their wild and amazing characters.

We decided to make a video for it using the thousands of photos we captured.

The song “My Special Place” seemed like a natural choice. My Special Place is a warm, personal and timeless song, the first to be premiered on ill.Gates’ forthcoming album ‘The ill.Methodology’ (Muti Music, Spring 2011).

Community Mural Project Proposal:

The city of Toronto is in the middle of a very ill-conceived crackdown on graffiti as our new mayor sees no distinction between murals and vandalism. We want to help change the public perception of street art in our city while strengthening our local community.

What we would like to do is get 5 floors of scaffolding and about 20 artists to paint a huge, highly visible wall in our community. We want to make a free event of it, having music and barbeque, and we want to invite members of the community to participate by setting up booths for both vending and networking on community issues such as the upcoming election.

We have all of the artists but we need art supplies and scaffolding.
